How one nonprofit is changing lives and keeping Jordan’s memory close
The day after our Jordan Taylor Memorial Barbecue that we posted about previously, we continued honoring Jordan’s legacy in a way that felt especially meaningful.
A group visited REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program in Fallbrook, including NBS staff, Jordan’s dad Bruce and his partner Susan – a doctor with a particularly special connection: she delivered Jordan as a baby. REINS is an incredible nonprofit dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted activities.
During our visit, we toured the peaceful 10-acre ranch, home to about 20 therapy horses, and had the chance to meet Konah, the horse NBS proudly sponsors in Jordan’s name. Konah is known for his playful personality, but more importantly, he plays a powerful role in the lives of riders who depend on him for movement, freedom, and confidence. For some, time on Konah is the only opportunity they have to experience life beyond a wheelchair, climbing hills and engaging with the world from a new perspective.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Tinkerbell (a tiny delight) and the opportunity to groom Konah, making the experience even more personal and memorable. NBS has contributed to the ranch and placed a commemorative brick in Jordan’s honor, creating a lasting connection between her love of animals and desire to make an impact in the world with this remarkable program.
With a waiting list of two to three years and riders ranging in age from 4 years old to over 80, the impact REINS has on the community is truly moving. The exceptionally welcoming and compassionate staff only add to the experience. We encourage anyone local to consider volunteering or supporting their mission; they’d welcome your help.
These photos capture the beauty of the ranch, the bond between horse and rider, and the spirit of a place that reflects so much of who Jordan was – and why her memory continues to inspire us.
