This is the first in our series celebrating clients who are making a measurable difference in their communities.
We’re proud to feature the Altadena Library District for providing critical support to its community following the devastating Eaton Fire that impacted Altadena, Pasadena, and surrounding areas earlier this year.
At its recent Annual Conference, CSDA highlighted District Director Nikki Winslow, for her proactive approach to find ways to serve and lead as the community recovers and rebuilds outside of traditional library services. Joining the District in 2019, Nikki has held multiple leadership positions within the California and American Library Associations and spearheaded efforts to make a difference in her community after the fire.
While over 5,800 single-family homes were lost, the District’s two libraries miraculously withstood the fire with minimal damage. The main library reopened in March after two months of painstaking work – cleaning all 70,000 books, shelf by shelf. The Bob Lucas branch library was being remodeled when the fire occurred and continued with that project to reopen in August.
When crisis strikes, it’s agencies like Altadena Library District that remind us of the power of community resilience. We’re grateful to partner with leaders who show up when it matters most.

Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight the impactful work happening in the communities we serve.
